Replay – Hercules

The twenty-first episode of The Reel Fantasy Podcast featured 1983’s Hercules, written and directed by Luigi Cozzi, using the pseudonym Lewis Coates. Reel Fantasy’s first exposure to the wonderful world of Golan & Globus, Matt and Drew watched Hercules in awestruck delight!

Hercules is a mind-numbingly strange blend of Greek mythology and low-budget-Star-Wars-knock-off-sci-fi starring Lou Ferrigno as Hercules and Sybil Danning as Ariadne.

Lou Ferrigno was nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Actor for his performance in this film. He didn’t “win,” but did win the Razzie for Worst New Star.  Sybil Danning won a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actress and the film itself was nominated for Worst Screenplay and Worst Picture. These nominations are all, of course, ridiculous. This film is incredible.

Released first in Italy and two weeks later in the US, Hercules reached its US Box Office peak on the day Matt was born. Read into that what you will.
